Computers & Design at the ACE Lab

The ACE Lab was set up in memory of Aaryaman, who loved his iPad, by the Singh family and Dr. Nilima Sabharwal. It began with eight computers. The courses below are all taught here.
Students with intellectual disabilities and young people from government schools learn side by side in the same batch.

Domestic Data Entry Operator
Learn typing, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. This is our most placed course, and some students go on to sit government exams.

Domestic IT Help Desk Attendant
Learn to take computer problems from people and get them fixed. Tanya did this course and now runs our help desk on her own.

ACE Lab
Multimedia & Design
Three modules at the ACE Lab: Photoshop for photos, CorelDraw for drawing and logos, and Stop Motion for making short films.

Retail Store Operations Assistant
Learn shop-floor work: stock, displays, helping customers and the till. This course has a version made for learners with a learning disability.

Assistant Beauty Therapist
Learn manicure, pedicure and basic face care, with hygiene and safety throughout. You then assist a senior therapist with bigger treatments.

Computer activities, rhymes and songs that help with speech, recognising words and communication.

The question every parent asks
“But my child cannot read and write properly.”
That does not stop anyone here. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) lets a candidate be assessed on skill they can demonstrate, rather than on written work.
Examinations follow government accommodation guidelines: papers set in Hindi and English, the right to ask for a question to be explained during the exam, the right to answer in one’s own language, short-answer and application-based questions, and assessment by viva-voce and practical demonstration.
Provisional admission is possible while a disability certificate is being arranged, with a government hospital report stating the intelligence level.

Who can join
Age 18 and above. Basic functional communication, independence in day-to-day activities, grooming and self-care, and minimum reading, writing and arithmetic skills. Trade-specific criteria may also apply — the counsellor will explain these.
Bring: disability certificate, Aadhaar of trainee and parent, education certificates, four passport photographs, PAN of parent and trainee. Income proof if a concession is needed.
You must be 18 or older.
