WSNA — We measure help needed, not what's wrong
WSNA — हम कमी नहीं, ज़रूरी मदद को मापते हैं
WSNA (Weighted Support Need Assessment) is Manovikas's own way of understanding a child or adult with an intellectual or developmental disability. Instead of asking "what is wrong with this person?", we ask "how much help does this person need — and in which parts of life?" When the help needed goes down, that is real progress.
WSNA मनोविकास का अपना तरीक़ा है — बौद्धिक व विकासात्मक दिव्यांगता वाले बच्चे या बड़े को समझने का। हम यह नहीं पूछते कि "इस व्यक्ति में क्या कमी है?" हम पूछते हैं — "इसे ज़िंदगी के किन हिस्सों में, कितनी मदद चाहिए?" जब मदद की ज़रूरत कम हो, तो समझिए सच्ची तरक्की हुई।

What happens when you come to Manovikas?
Step 1 — We meet you. You book an OPD appointment. Our team talks with you and your child. No long forms, no difficult words.
Step 2 — We make the WSNA picture. Together we look at 9 areas of life — like talking, learning, self-care, feelings, friends, work. For each area we note how much help is needed today.
Step 3 — You get one clear plan. The areas that need more help become the goals. The doctor, therapist, teacher and you — everyone follows the same plan.
Step 4 — We check progress together. After some months we look again. Where less help is needed now, your child has grown. You see it in a simple chart, in Hindi or English.
चरण 1 — आप ओपीडी अपॉइंटमेंट बुक करते हैं। हमारी टीम आपसे और बच्चे से बात करती है। चरण 2 — हम मिलकर जीवन के 9 क्षेत्रों की तस्वीर बनाते हैं — बोलना, सीखना, अपनी देखभाल, भावनाएँ, दोस्ती, काम। चरण 3 — आपको एक साफ़ योजना मिलती है — डॉक्टर, थेरेपिस्ट, शिक्षक और आप, सब वही योजना चलाते हैं। चरण 4 — कुछ महीनों बाद फिर देखते हैं। जहाँ अब कम मदद चाहिए, वहाँ बच्चा आगे बढ़ा है।

Safety promise: if safety or behaviour ever needs Level 4 help, we make a special safety plan the same day. सुरक्षा का वादा: यदि सुरक्षा या व्यवहार में स्तर-4 की मदद चाहिए, तो उसी दिन विशेष सुरक्षा-योजना बनती है।

"Help needed went down here" — progress you can see
At every review, you see two bars side by side: the first visit, and today. When the bar gets smaller, your child needs less help — that is growth you can see with your own eyes, explained in simple Hindi or English.
हर समीक्षा में आप दो पट्टियाँ साथ-साथ देखते हैं — पहली मुलाक़ात की और आज की। पट्टी छोटी हुई, यानी अब कम मदद चाहिए — यही तरक्की है, जो आप अपनी आँखों से देख सकते हैं।

Your questions, answered simply
Is WSNA a test? Will my child pass or fail? · क्या यह कोई परीक्षा है?
No. There is no pass or fail, and no "good" or "bad" score. WSNA only shows where help is needed, so we can give the right help. Every child's picture is different, and every picture is respected.
नहीं। इसमें पास-फ़ेल नहीं होता, न कोई "अच्छा" या "बुरा" अंक। WSNA सिर्फ़ यह दिखाता है कि मदद कहाँ चाहिए, ताकि सही मदद मिल सके। हर बच्चे की तस्वीर अलग होती है, और हर तस्वीर का सम्मान होता है।
Will this give my child a disability certificate (UDID)? · क्या इससे सर्टिफिकेट मिलेगा?
WSNA itself is not a certificate. But if your family needs a UDID certificate, our OPD team guides you on the full pathway with the government-recognised tests. WSNA works alongside them — it plans the help; the certificate opens government schemes.
WSNA अपने-आप में सर्टिफिकेट नहीं है। पर यदि आपको UDID सर्टिफिकेट चाहिए, तो हमारी ओपीडी टीम सरकारी-मान्य जाँचों के पूरे रास्ते में आपकी मदद करती है। WSNA योजना बनाता है; सर्टिफिकेट सरकारी योजनाओं के दरवाज़े खोलता है।
My child does not speak. Can WSNA still be done? · मेरा बच्चा बोलता नहीं है?
Yes, fully. In WSNA, every way of communicating counts — speech, signs, pointing, pictures, or a communication device. We never write "no communication" for a non-speaking person. We find their way of talking, and build on it.
हाँ, पूरी तरह। WSNA में बातचीत का हर तरीक़ा मान्य है — बोली, इशारे, चित्र या डिवाइस। न बोलने वाले बच्चे के लिए हम कभी "बातचीत नहीं" नहीं लिखते। हम उसका अपना तरीक़ा ढूँढते हैं और उसी को आगे बढ़ाते हैं।
How often is it done again? · दोबारा कब होता है?
It depends on the level of help. Children needing more help are reviewed more often — from every month up to every six months. You are part of every review.
यह मदद के स्तर पर निर्भर है। जिन्हें ज़्यादा मदद चाहिए, उनकी समीक्षा जल्दी-जल्दी होती है — हर महीने से लेकर हर छह महीने तक। हर समीक्षा में आप शामिल रहते हैं।

International foundation
Every WSNA item is mapped to the WHO ICF framework, and its four-level logic follows the AAIDD support-intensity approach — asking what supports a person needs for community success, not only what they cannot do.
Works with Indian tools
WSNA does not replace VSMS, ISAA, FACP, VAPS or any Gazette-recognised certification tool. It sits on top of them, translating their findings into one common support language for planning and daily practice — something no widely used Indian-developed instrument does today.
Our research commitment · हमारा शोध-संकल्प
WSNA is ICF-aligned and support-intensity informed, and is in daily clinical use at Manovikas. A structured research programme — reliability, validity and sensitivity-to-change studies — is underway, following the same open path as our published SDS-IDD scale (α = 0.86, published 2025). We report every result openly.
