Higher education for all

Manovikas Institute for Higher Education

Accessible, flexible, person-centred higher education for people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities — learning that does not stop at eighteen.

MIHE is for people who learn differently.

We help them keep learning after school.

We help them reach college and work.

Why MIHE exists

The "Educational Cliff" after 18

For most people with IDD in India, school is the end of the road. After the age of eighteen, structured support drops away sharply — there is no clear path into higher education, no lifelong learning, and few employment-focused options. The result is dependency, isolation and lost potential.

MIHE exists to close that gap — building a continuous pathway from early childhood to adult life, so learning and support continue for as long as a person needs them.

In India, school often stops at 18 for people with IDD.

After that, there is little help.

MIHE keeps helping people learn and grow — for life.

What we're building

MIHE 2026 — an integrated, lifelong ecosystem

Our roadmap: to build India's first integrated, lifelong inclusive learning and development ecosystem for people with IDD — bringing education, therapy, skills, mental health and self-advocacy together as one continuum. The elements below are in development.

This is our plan for the future. We are building it now.

One integrated ecosystem

Education, rehabilitation, therapy, skills, mental health and advocacy working together — not in silos.

All our help, joined up in one place.

The Weighted Support Need framework (WSNA)

A fair way to measure how much support each learner needs, so resources and recognition match real need. To be piloted and validated.

A fair way to give each person the right amount of help.

Digital Nerve Centre

A single management system for learner records, progress tracking, dashboards and transparent reporting.

One safe system to track progress and stay open.

The outcomes we're working toward

Educational

A seamless pathway from early years to adulthood, with real access to higher education.

Economic

Market-linked skills and enterprise — moving from dependency to livelihood.

Social

Greater self-determination, civic participation and reduced family stress.

Systemic

A replicable national model, aligned with NEP 2020, the RPwD Act and the UNCRPD.
