Aaryaman Centre of Excellence Lab · since April 2015
A room full of computers, and a boy who loved his iPad
The ACE Lab was built in memory of Aaryaman. He loved his iPad — and that gave his family an idea: if a screen could open the world for one child, it could open it for many.
Set up by the Singh family and Dr. Nilima Sabharwal
Job courses, school subjects and computer skills
Students with and without disabilities in the same batch
Also used by our staff, D.Ed. trainees and AICTE students
Learners
People who learned here
These are real people.
They learned at the ACE Lab.
Now they work.
Tanya · Help Desk
From too shy to ask, to running the help desk
Tanya is 23 and has a learning disability. She finished her schooling through NIOS and trained as a special educator, but her interest kept pulling towards computers.
She arrived with very little confidence. She would not ask questions, because she believed people laughed when she did — so she stayed quiet and stayed stuck. Regular classes, a patient trainer and a family behind her changed that slowly.
She now has a strong command of Excel and PowerPoint, and runs the Manovikas help desk on her own. In her free time she is learning craft work at the Love Arts lab.
Tanya was very shy.
She did not like asking questions.
She practised a lot.
Now she runs our help desk by herself.
Shubham · Data Entry and multimedia
From learning to earning
Shubham is 23 and has an intellectual and developmental disability. He completed Secondary through NIOS, then took the Data Entry course here.
He knew some basics when he joined, but he was afraid of making mistakes. Steady attendance, practice with a trainer and support at home got him past it.
He now has a good command of Excel, Photoshop and Illustrator, is working as a computer assistant trainee, and is learning multimedia with his coordinator. He travels on his own and manages his own money.
Shubham was scared of making mistakes.
He practised every day.
Now he uses Excel and Photoshop.
He travels on his own.
Piyush · Data Entry
Running his own business from home
Piyush is 20 and has had multiple disabilities since birth. He completed Class 8 under NSQF and then the Data Entry course here.
At the start he needed help with almost everything. With counsellor support, therapy and assistive devices, he began doing his own work — and his confidence grew alongside his skills.
He now runs an online trading business in toys and health-care products from home, with his mother's help. He wants to build his own website, and design it himself.
Piyush needed help with everything.
He learned to use a computer.
Now he sells things online from home.
He wants to make his own website.
Deepika · preparing for a government job
Practising from the newspaper
Deepika is preparing for government Data Entry Operator examinations. Her typing practice is done the old-fashioned way — copying from the newspaper, every day.
It is not a glamorous method. It works. Real text, real speed, real accuracy, and the discipline of turning up to it daily.
